Spectators watch the last ever British Airways commercial Concorde flight touch down at Heathrow airport, London. More than 2.5 million passengers have flown BA Concorde since the aircraft entered commercial service in 1976.

The aircraft's four specially designed Rolls-Royce/ Snecma Olympus 593 engines each give more than 17,200 kilograms of thrust. They are the most powerful pure jet engines flying commercially.

The Concorde takes off at 220 knots (407 kph) compared with 165 knots (about 306 kph) for most subsonic aircraft. It cruises at about 2,175 kph, more than twice the speed of sound, at an altitude of more than 18,000 metres.
