Britain's Red Arrows and the Indian Air Force's Surya Kiran aerobatics teams on Monday staged stunning displays over the Hindon air base near Delhi.

The display came a few weeks after the Indian government announced its decision to buy Hawk advanced jet trainers.

The show began with the nine-aircraft Surya Kiran taking to the skies and ended with a Sukhoi-3 MKI executing several difficult flights.

The Red Arrows, which fly Hawks, staged several maneuvers including the Corkscrew, Vertical Break, and Cubans to Opposition Barrels.

The Red Arrows' visit to India was planned almost a year ago. Their presence after the Hawk deal announcement gave the audience a first-hand experience of the agile fighters.

Air Marshal Sir Joe French, commander-in-chief of the British Royal Air Force's Personnel and Training Command, said the Hawk deal would be signed towards the end of the year.

Britain and India will exchange instructors and Indians will be trained in Hawk facilities in the United Kingdom for three years after the contract is signed, he said. Britain provides pilot training to over 10 countries.

The air forces of India and Britain could in the future put up joint combat exercises. A team of IAF officers had visited Britain a few days ago to finalise the future course of their relations, Sir Joe said.

The Red Arrows, who display their skills across the globe, will refuel at Karachi on their way to West Asia on Tuesday, Squadron Leader Spike Jepson, leader of the team, said.

"It was a tremendous experience. We hope they really enjoy the Hawk. It is a very good trainer, great for aerobatics," Jepson said. The Hawks to be acquired by India will be more powerful than the ones that the Red Arrows use.

Jepson said the BRAF hasn't seen many air forces that perform aerobatics with nine aircraft like the Surya Kiran.

However, European laws do not allow the British aerobatics team to fly over crowds, while the Indian team does.
