Two killed in Punjab panchayat polls

Two persons were killed and about 50 injured on Sunday in poll-related violence as around 80 per cent voters exercised their franchise in over 12,000 village panchayats spread over 17 districts of Punjab.
In Dhariwal village in Amritsar district, Congress candidate Major Singh's uncle was allegedly killed in shoot out with an Akali Dal-supported candidate Channan Singh, police said.
A supporter of independent MLA from Batala Suchha Singh Chhotepur was stabbed to death during campaigning in Zora Singh Wala village late on Saturday night, police said.
Akali Dal and Congress supporters clashed in several districts, including Moga, Ferozepur and Amritsar.
State Election Commissioner C L Bains told PTI that polling had been postponed in 12 villages following complaints of mistakes in the ballot papers.
Polling in these villages would now be held on July 15, he added.
