The now disbanded Nelson Mandela United Football Club shot into infamy when team members --who doubled as bodyguards of his then wife Winnie -- were accused of murder and political abductions. Mandela has been actively involved in reviving sporting ties between South Africa and the rest of the world, which were cut in protest over the apartheid regime.
