According to legend, a sadhu handed a sack of coal to a shepherd named Buta Malik. On reaching home, he discovered that the sack contained gold.

Malik rushed to thank the sadhu, but at the spot where they met, all he saw was a cave, which in due course became a pilgrimage centre.

A percentage of the donations is still given to Malik's descendants.
