French team meets Hurriyat leaders

January 21, 2003 19:42 IST

A three-member French delegation led by parliamentarian Pierre Lallouche met All-Parties Hurriyat Conference leaders in Srinagar and impressed upon them the need to put an end to violence in Jammu and Kashmir.

After a scheduled meeting with the Hurriyat leadership was postponed on Monday evening, Lallouche, chairman of the Indo-French friendship group, met the amalgam's chairman, Abdul Gani Bhat, and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Mohammed Yaseen Malik separately late in the night.

The Hurriyat chairman said he emphasised on the need for a dialogue between India, Pakistan and Kashmiris for a durable and long-lasting solution to the Kashmir issue.

Malik said there was no specific agenda and the discussion revolved around the situation in the state.
