Criminal case filed against Togadia

February 21, 2003 00:40 IST

Police on Thursday filed a criminal case against Vishwa Hindu Parishad international general secretary Pravin Togadia for allegedly making some 'objectionable remarks' against Muslims at a public rally in Belgaum on February 16, police said.

The police said a case had also been registered against state Bajrang Dal leader Pramod Muthalik on the same ground.

District authorities had prohibited entry of Togadia into Belgaum district but the Karnataka high court had set it aside.

The case against Togadia was booked under different sections of the Indian Penal Code.

While setting aside the district magistrate's order, the court had directed that Togadia should not make any derogatory remarks against any religion or community which constituted an offence under sections 153A and 295A of the IPC.

Togadia is already facing a similar case in Chikamagalur district, where he had addressed a rally recently.
