Congress not opposed to
Ram temple construction

February 18, 2003 19:38 IST

The Congress on Tuesday said it was not opposed to construction of the Ram temple at Ayodhya, but the site should be decided by a court of law.

Party spokesman Satyabrata Chaturvedi accused the BJP and Sangh Parivar of raking up the Ayodhya issue before the budget session of Parliament keeping in view the assembly polls in some states.

Speaking to reporters in Delhi, he, however, parried a question on former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao's promise to construct a mosque at the site where the Babri masjid used to exist.
