Terror alert prompts Air France to cancel flights to US

December 25, 2003 02:22 IST

Air France on Wednesday cancelled three flights to Los Angeles, in western United States, following a terror alert by US authorities. The latter reportedly told the French that the planes might be used for terror attacks.

The US is already on a heightened state of alert following warnings that terrorists might strike when the nation is celebrating Christmas or New Year.

Tight security has been put in place in Los Angeles. "These are the tightest security measures we have implemented since the September 11 attacks," said spokesman Harold Johnson. As part of these measures, private vehicles are not allowed to drop off or pick up passengers on the kerb of the airport's terminals until January 4.
