King's legacy, however, lives on. In 1969, his widow, Coretta Scott King, organised the Martin Luther King Jr Centre for Non-Violent Social Change. It is situated next to his favourite Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. His birthday, January 15, is a national holiday, celebrated each year with educational programmes, artistic displays, and concerts throughout the US. The Lorraine Hotel, where he was shot, is now the National Civil Rights Museum.
On August 23, 2003, Martin Luther King III led a march to commemorate the 40th anniversary of his father's historic 'I have a dream' speech.
