Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar | August 15, 2003 19:16 IST

At least 16 persons were injured in a grenade explosion on Friday afternoon at Pakherpora in central Budgam district.

The police said militants hurled the grenade at the heavily guarded camp of Special Operations Group at Pakherpora, which missed the target and exploded on the road injuring civilian bystanders.

The police said the injured were taken to a hospital. Five seriously wounded persons have been brought to Srinagar for specialised treatment.

No one has yet admitted responsibility for the blast.
