13 nominations for
11 RS seats in UP

Thirteen nominations, including one sponsored by a group of Bharatiya Janata Party dissidents, have been filed for the November 18 election to 11 Rajya Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh.

Friday was the last day for filing nominations.

Dissidents' nominee Suresh Nanda, an arms dealer, and industrialist Lalit Suri are in the fray for one seat for which a bypoll is being held, while 11 nominations have been received for biennial elections to 10 RS seats in the state.

Prominent among those who have filed their papers for the biennial polls are BJP general secretaries Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Rajnath Singh, Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh and sitting Bahujan Samaj Party MP Gandhi Azad.

The nominations would be scrutinised on Saturday. Monday is the last day for withdrawal of nominations.
