Five people killed in Pak shelling in Jammu

Five people, including two children, were killed and eight wounded in heavy Pakistani shelling in R S Pora sector of Jammu on Saturday night.

Police sources said Pakistani troops shelled Chanduchak and Korotana villages and also fired from small arms.

"The shelling and firing continued for several hours," a senior police official said.

He said that eight civilians received injuries in the shelling in Korotana village. The injured have been admitted to hospital.

The shelling triggered panic among the villagers leading to migration to safer places.

Indian army troops also shelled Pakistani positions in retaliation. The firing exchange continued till the early hours of Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, thousands of people have started fleeing villages in Ramgrah sector in Jammu. Already over 12,000 people from border areas have migrated to safer places following heavy shelling by Pakistan.

Pakistani troops also shelled Kargil, Batalik and Drass sectors.
