Ritu Singh, 31-year-old daughter of senior Congress leader and former minister of state for external affairs Natwar Singh, was found dead at her father's Vasant Vihar residence on Thursday.
She was found hanging from the ceiling in her first-floor room at around 7.30 pm. The room was locked from inside, police sources said.
No suicide note was found, they said.
Ritu, who was to leave for London next week, was suffering from depression and was under treatment for the same, R K Anand, the Singh family's lawyer, said.
She had taken "excessive dosage of sedative Alprex before her death," he said.
The body was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for post-mortem.
A police spokesman said Ritu used a night gown to hang herself. Her body was found when her maid servant, Surinder Kaur, tried to open the door to her room but found it locked from inside, he said.
Family members subsequently broke the door open.
On March 17, Natwar Singh's daughter-in-law Natasha was found dead on the first-floor terrace of Hyatt Regency.
Family sources said Ritu was instrumental in Natasha's marriage with Natwar Singh's son Jagat.
Several political leaders, including Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, visited Natwar Singh's residence to express their condolences.
The post-mortem on Ritu's body is likely to be carried out late on Thursday night.
A team of doctors, meanwhile, was rushed to Natwar Singh's residence after he complained of chest pain.
