One killed in police firing in Rajasthan town

One person was killed in police firing to disperse two groups that were clashing in Rajasthan's Sawai Madhopur district on Monday, the police said.

An indefinite curfew has been clamped on the town and additional forces have been rushed there.

Police resorted to firing after a cane-charge and bursting of teargas shells failed to disperse the groups that were indulging in rioting and arson in Gangapur town, according to the state police headquarters in Jaipur.

Reports of communal tension were also received from Lambian village in Pali district on Monday morning, they said. Additional forces have been rushed to the village.

Meanwhile, a powerful blast ripped through a house in Dungarpur town on the Gujarat border. But police said there were no reports of any casualties. The cause of the explosion was yet to be ascertained.
