Two militants holed up in J&K mosque

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Army soldiers surrounded a mosque late on Monday evening in Maringund in north Baramulla to flush out two militants holed up inside, a senior police official told rediff.com on Tuesday.

We have been making announcements asking them to surrender, he said, adding that there was intermittent firing exchange between the holed up ultras and the security forces deployed outside.

He said that the army surrounded the mosque after receiving specific information from intelligence sources. He added that the siege was tightened on Tuesday morning with more reinforcements arriving in Maringund.

Last month, troops had killed two militants who were hiding in a mosque in Tutigund in Kupwara district.
