Pattali Makkal Katchi, a staunch supporter of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, on Thursday described the efforts to arrest Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Vaiko under Prevention of Terrorism Act as a 'gross misuse of the provisions of the act'.
PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss said in Chennai that Vaiko's imminent arrest was an 'infringement' of freedom of expression and speech.
Expressing moral support to a banned outfit did not amount to extending help to the organisation, he said.
Even Madras high court had recently ruled that there was no need to ban meetings supporting the LTTE, he said referring to its verdict on a case filed by Tamil National Movement leader P Nedumaran, challenging the Tamil Nadu government's decision to ban a meeting organised by him.
Ramadoss said his party was for lifting the ban on the LTTE in the country.
A solution to the Sri Lankan Tamils' problem was impossible without the involvement of LTTE, he added.
