22 dead, 70 sick after drinking hooch in Tamil Nadu

In yet another hooch tragedy within a week in Tamil Nadu, 22 people died and 70 others were hospitalised after they consumed illicit liquor in Natham village near Panruti in Tamil Nadu's Cuddalore district, the police said.

While one person died soon after consuming the illicit brew, the rest died at the Cuddalore General Hospital, they said.

Police said the distributor of killer brew was at large.

A Cuddalore report said District Police Superintendent S Davidson and Collector Thangaswami have rushed to the area to make an on the spot enquiry.

It said all those who had consumed the hooch started vomiting and complained of giddiness.

On November 27, three persons died near Kancheepuram after consuming illicit brew.

In another major tragedy 30 people died after consuming illicit brew at Kottur village in suburban Red Hills in the first week of October.
