Dhananjoy Singh stakes claim
to form Manipur ministry

A day after the Bharatiya Janata Party and Samata Party quit the race for government formation in Manipur, Speaker Sapam Dhananjoy Singh called on Governor Ved Prakash Marwah on Tuesday and staked claim to form a Manipur State Congress Party-led Progressive Democratic Alliance ministry.

Singh said the governor asked him to submit a fresh list of supporters by Wednesday evening, since the BJP, with 26 legislators, withdrew from the PDA.

The MSCP leader, who had submitted a list of 41 supporting legislators to the governor on Monday, said he would submit a new list.

Singh said he was in touch with senior BJP leaders to give him 'outside support' as a viable government could not be formed if the 26-member BJP legislature party and Samata Party with 12 legislators stayed out of government formation.

The BJP and Samata Party had announced on Monday that they would not participate in ministry-making in Manipur.
