JD (U) quits DMK-led NDA in TN

In yet another jolt to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led National Democratic Alliance in Tamil Nadu, the Janata Dal (United), one of its constituents, on Thursday quit the front and decided to go alone in the state assembly elections.

The party, however, made it clear that its tie-up with the NDA at the national level was intact.

JD (U) general secretary M Raghupathy and secretary Javed Raza told reporters that the decision to quit the NDA was taken unanimously by state unit office bearers.

JD (U) state unit president K Balasubramanian said the party was hoping that the DMK chief M Karunanidhi would invite it for seat-sharing talks, but now it was too late.

JD (U) is the second party to break away from DMK-led front. Tamizhaga Rajiv Congress led by Vazhapadi K Ramamurthy was the first.
