by tehelka.com has left everyone in shock and disbelief. No patriotic Indian
can tolerate these kind of unethical and unlawful activities done by the
politicians and bureaucrates. Corruption at high places has to be curbed
at any cost. People of India never had faith in any political party to
curb corruption. Corruption and bribery has become part of the system and
everyone accepts this at ease. So for Armed forces has been considered
corrupt free and this revelation leads to doubt that. One should not forget
the amount of public support and Respect the Armed forces earned in the
Recent Kargil war. To maintain that and to come clean the Defense top brass
should fire all these corrupt officers who are involved in these kind of
third rate activities. Fail to do so will put our country's national security
at stake. BJP and its allies took so much advantage of the 64 crore Bofors
deal and now who knows how many crores these politicians ate. It is shocking
to read the conversation of these lowlifes and how many foreign accounts
they have. The accusations go till PMO and FM. The Defense Minister doesn't
have any morality to stay in his office. His Party President and Trustee
talked (in the tapes) as if they own India,Inc. How disgusting? The entire
government has to go. But this is not the solution to the problem. There
should be reforms. Bipartisan council's consisting law makers from all
the parties has to be set up for all these multicrore purchases in the
Defence,Communications,Space and Power sectors. It may be just getting
a drivers license or a fighter aircraft. You need agents and middlemen
in our country. How sad. who are they? How can they make in millions, when

Views:The Westend Scam has
exposed the rot that has set even in our armed forces. Just a few months
ago immediately after the Kargil operations, the population of India held
the armed forces in high esteem. In fact, in one of the surveys, the armed
forces was considered to be the most honest profession. Tragically, that
is no longer valid, if what has been exposed by tehelka.com in their news
story on the web, is anything to go by. In another related article, one
of the journalists who exposed the nexus between the politicians, the bureaucrats
and the army officers in that sensational disclosure has alleged that the
purchase of SMART ammunition during the Kargil War also involved corruption.
"The Government of India quickly purchased these bombs without negotiating
the price at Rs 14 lakh a piece against the actual price of Rs six lakh
a piece. The deal was worth Rs 270 crores and fifty percent commission
was taken," said, Mr Mathew. Surely more heads will roll. It is indeed
a shame on the armed forces that they too have succumbed to greed and money
along with the desire to get rich quick. The senior army officer, Major
General PSK Chaudhury, whose department plays an important role in procurement
of weapons and equipment for the army, has been suspended. But for him
to confess in front of the TV for his crime but try and justify his action
by asking what should he do when they offered him money without his asking
is, unacceptable. The army teaches you to be honest and not succumb to
pressure and take money from anyone for doing your job. More importantly,
Major General Chaudhury must have been selected to hold that important
job based on his competence and professional integrity and his record until
now must have been excellent. He is one of the finest officer who excelled
in his profession and was destined to climb the ladder in the army’s hierarchy.

Unless and until media deals it properly. Undoubtedly the Defence Minister

we Talking About? Do we as a nation believe in moral responsibility? Take
a look at the following statements: “ I did no wrong”, says Jaya Jaitley.
“Fernandes is defiant”. “ Army officers suspended along with defence ministry
officials.” NDA is united on its stand”. “No adverse impact” says M Karunanidhi.
“No one sought the resignation of the Defence Minister at the meeting of
the NDA leaders on March 14 and the same was not discussed” “The Prime
Minster was mostly silent during the said NDA meeting” One can go on reading
these statements made in our national press. We talk of morality but we
do not understand the meaning of “taking moral responsibility”. We are
reminded of moral principles for all the wrong things like showing solidarity
when a leader is accused of gross misdemeanor. We see conspiracy when we
get caught for doing things, which we are not supposed to do. We find scapegoats
and let big fish continue to feed and get fat. We as a nation have got
away with all the wrong things for too long and the current “tehelka” from
“ tehelka .com will also pass. If Major General PSK Choudhary and other
army officers involved in this scam have lowered the prestige and faith
that the public had in the army, our leaders have done nothing different
from their known methods of getting out of a difficult situation. After
his confession on TV, Major General Choudhary has no moral right to even
come out and speak and better order a “pardah” for himself for the rest
of his life. Yet, the NDA leaders want a probe first and then only ask
the accused leaders to resign. Said a leader on the TV, “army officers
are suspended; politicians resign”. But the very same leader would defend
George Fernandes, Jaya Jaitly and others because proof is yet to be established
before they are told to resign.
