Views:These politicians, beauraucrats and Army officers are tip of iceberg. They should be crushed on the road for they are guilty of murdering the soldiers, the MIG21 pilots and other defence personnels who risk their lives for such a low calibre munitions. DO NOT SPARE THEM. Let the tirade continue. The irony is that all the political parties are equally corrupt have nexus with underworld and so are the faces of same coin. So you can see that nothing is going to budge these hooligans who are goondas in khadi. Jaya Jaitliy should commit suicide. Moreover it should be conveyed to the public in rural areas that they should not vote for such parties. Its tragedy of Indian Democracy. Let the Armed forces with its self-respecting officers take over the nations administration. Kill these laloo brand politicians from all the parties.

Views:The politicians call it a conspiracy to defame the BJP leadership. Regardless of whether it is a conspiracy or not the BJP and the defense people involved have stooped so low that they are willing to compromise the security of a nation. What was their conscience doing when they were accepting these bribes or when they showed a willingness to accept these bribes ? It is even surprising to see that they even have an excuse in the name of conspiracy to deflect the blame on. How shameless can they get ?

Views:The recent revelation by tehelka.com has left everyone in shock and disbelief. No patriotic Indian can tolerate these kind of unethical and unlawful activities done by the politicians and bureaucrates. Corruption at high places has to be curbed at any cost. People of India never had faith in any political party to curb corruption. Corruption and bribery has become part of the system and everyone accepts this at ease. So for Armed forces has been considered corrupt free and this revelation leads to doubt that. One should not forget the amount of public support and Respect the Armed forces earned in the Recent Kargil war. To maintain that and to come clean the Defense top brass should fire all these corrupt officers who are involved in these kind of third rate activities. Fail to do so will put our country's national security at stake. BJP and its allies took so much advantage of the 64 crore Bofors deal and now who knows how many crores these politicians ate. It is shocking to read the conversation of these lowlifes and how many foreign accounts they have. The accusations go till PMO and FM. The Defense Minister doesn't have any morality to stay in his office. His Party President and Trustee talked (in the tapes) as if they own India,Inc. How disgusting? The entire government has to go. But this is not the solution to the problem. There should be reforms. Bipartisan council's consisting law makers from all the parties has to be set up for all these multicrore purchases in the Defence,Communications,Space and Power sectors. It may be just getting a drivers license or a fighter aircraft. You need agents and middlemen in our country. How sad. who are they? How can they make in millions, when 30% of the population is starving and can't eat a good meal in any given day. We need a revolution. God bless India.

Its very sad to hear that even army officials are involved in this scam. Politicians, we know are the scum of our country. I never expected military officials to be so dishonest. I think the defense minister should step down. There should be a thorough inquiry and the folks found guilty should be court martialled or probably hanged. The crime is equivalent to mass murder (yeah it is genocide), since such deals could have the effect of killing 1000s of patriotic Indian soldiers near the borders with our enemies. I would hate to see these idiots go scot free.

Views:So what else is new in India? The problem of corruption is so endemic that no amount of reforms will help. As guilty parties are caught, more come up in their place. I don't think the Defence Minister should resign because he is not the cause of the problem. he may not be the solution, but he had nothing to do with the corruption and his taking "moral responsibility" is just passing the buck. India like any country runs on graft and corruption - it's what keeps the wheels of commerce turning without squeaking. Corruption exists and we cannot stop it, just live with it.

Views:Shocking ! but hardly unbelievable. The fact that corruption has become a way of life in india doesn't bother anyone anymore. It's like breathing. Natural and widely accepted ! But kudos to the gutsy duo who decided to take th ebeats headon !!! Now the rest of the country must make sure that the culprits are not spared. The army oficers are already in the pan. But please don't let the politicians escape unscathed. India needs their head. Our national conscience needs their blood to reawaken. Years of seeing the culprit go scot free has made us lackadaisical and complacent to the point that we do not even bate an eyelid when such things happen. This must end. Let there be consequences this time people. Please don't reelect these peopl and send them back to the parliament like you did with Laloo, Jayalalitha and Sukhram.

Views:Who is that Senior minister? While on a visit to Tel Aviv in 1997, the driver of the taxi that took me from the airport to the city boasted to me that,'..only a few weeks ago a senior Indian minister was sitting in the same front seat that I was sitting..'. It amazed me, since India was then headed by a National Front government and I wasn't sure if any of them will be visiting Israel. Then I realised that it must be somebody from the 13 day BJP government before the National Front government. Now, the truth is out and it is only a matter of days before a clear picture emerges.

Even from my college days I, like a millions people know about the murky deals in all short of purchases in defence starting from buying a pump to Sukoi planes, huge money will pass through under the security cover. Wlile an ordinary soldier will donate his life, jeopardising his family, top officials usurp money jeopardising the nation. This is a high time to bring all defence deals to be made public and to be scrutines under the direct jurisdiction of supreme court. As for the greed of these defence officers and politicians sky is the limit. Kudos to the journalists, editors, cameramen etc of tehelka.com. Long live there soul. let us sereously prey for them!!! Views:At last Indian journalism has come of age. Finally, we see some investigative reporting and that too pointing the finger at political heavyweights. Corruption is the major undercurrent in all aspects of Indian bureaucracy and today it lies exposed. The BJP and the nation (opposition parties included) need to hold all errant individuals accountable for selling our future security for a measly rupees. Also, the BJP owes the nation an apology and instead of trying to be defensive (no pun intended) Vajpayee can say 'I am sorry' and implement steps to ensure that this does not happen again, no matter who is in power.

I am shocked , saddened and ashamed to say the least. My father is a retired Army officer - he had a great career and we had a wonderful time as army brats often do. I was so enamoured by the armed forces that I debated going through 5 years of medical school, just so I could join the army ( being a girl , that was the only way). I'm glad I didn't

Views:As Pramod Mahajan has pointed out, defence deals have been negotiated and finalised by the govt of independent India since 1947. The "exposures" of Tehelca.com do not make out a case that corruption has crept into defence deals only since the BJP came to power. It is a cancer of long standing but, like alleged corruption in the judiciary, has been a "sacred cow" that could not be touched. It is a good development that corruption in such areas could be discussed and dealt with openly.

Views:The Westend Scam has exposed the rot that has set even in our armed forces. Just a few months ago immediately after the Kargil operations, the population of India held the armed forces in high esteem. In fact, in one of the surveys, the armed forces was considered to be the most honest profession. Tragically, that is no longer valid, if what has been exposed by tehelka.com in their news story on the web, is anything to go by. In another related article, one of the journalists who exposed the nexus between the politicians, the bureaucrats and the army officers in that sensational disclosure has alleged that the purchase of SMART ammunition during the Kargil War also involved corruption. "The Government of India quickly purchased these bombs without negotiating the price at Rs 14 lakh a piece against the actual price of Rs six lakh a piece. The deal was worth Rs 270 crores and fifty percent commission was taken," said, Mr Mathew. Surely more heads will roll. It is indeed a shame on the armed forces that they too have succumbed to greed and money along with the desire to get rich quick. The senior army officer, Major General PSK Chaudhury, whose department plays an important role in procurement of weapons and equipment for the army, has been suspended. But for him to confess in front of the TV for his crime but try and justify his action by asking what should he do when they offered him money without his asking is, unacceptable. The army teaches you to be honest and not succumb to pressure and take money from anyone for doing your job. More importantly, Major General Chaudhury must have been selected to hold that important job based on his competence and professional integrity and his record until now must have been excellent. He is one of the finest officer who excelled in his profession and was destined to climb the ladder in the army’s hierarchy. Thu Mar 15 06:04:55 2001

Views:Once again Tehelka.com has done its Media duty perfectly well. Previously unvieling the Cricket Scandal and now the Defence deal. But it is questionable regarding the way Tehelka.com is dealing the situation. It says it has evidence regarding Congress too but says it is not proper time to release. This makes people to feel Tehelka.com has some grudge against the Ruling party. Regarding the scandal, every ordinary citizen of Indian knows how our politicians are. Defence scandal is not new to Indian Politics. Previously it was Bofors and now Operation West End. Let me Remind you Bofors case is still going on in our courts i.e., almost 15 years have passed and 15 more years will pass without any outcome. Our politicians have knack to divert the public mind from one burning issue to other. So, the same with this case also. Unless and until media deals it properly. Undoubtedly the Defence Minister should step down from his position, for clean enquiry. The military has taken right action by suspending its ordinals. Jaya Jitley was always in the news not for good. Previously it was backing up Jadeja and yeiling against the Income Tax officers for their raids. But what is surprising to hear is the presence of Laxman in this scandal.

Views:Whose Morality are we Talking About? Do we as a nation believe in moral responsibility? Take a look at the following statements: “ I did no wrong”, says Jaya Jaitley. “Fernandes is defiant”. “ Army officers suspended along with defence ministry officials.” NDA is united on its stand”. “No adverse impact” says M Karunanidhi. “No one sought the resignation of the Defence Minister at the meeting of the NDA leaders on March 14 and the same was not discussed” “The Prime Minster was mostly silent during the said NDA meeting” One can go on reading these statements made in our national press. We talk of morality but we do not understand the meaning of “taking moral responsibility”. We are reminded of moral principles for all the wrong things like showing solidarity when a leader is accused of gross misdemeanor. We see conspiracy when we get caught for doing things, which we are not supposed to do. We find scapegoats and let big fish continue to feed and get fat. We as a nation have got away with all the wrong things for too long and the current “tehelka” from “ tehelka .com will also pass. If Major General PSK Choudhary and other army officers involved in this scam have lowered the prestige and faith that the public had in the army, our leaders have done nothing different from their known methods of getting out of a difficult situation. After his confession on TV, Major General Choudhary has no moral right to even come out and speak and better order a “pardah” for himself for the rest of his life. Yet, the NDA leaders want a probe first and then only ask the accused leaders to resign. Said a leader on the TV, “army officers are suspended; politicians resign”. But the very same leader would defend George Fernandes, Jaya Jaitly and others because proof is yet to be established before they are told to resign.

The problem is aggrevated because both the parties are serving their interest and hence they are not exposed in public. Since in this case, the interest of tehelka.com was to get the story on camera, they were successful in uncovering it. It will be a good lesson for all politicians, beuraucrats and personnel in ubiform. It does not mean that those who have not been caught are saints. In fact in the last 53 years of independance, Congress has been the benificiary of the corruption and have no moral ground to raise hue and cry. If this expose was done five years back, it would have been congress politicians. It is very sad for the country that who so ever was in power tried to gain advantage from his position.
