'This is a democracy...and that's how the political parties raise money'

Views:Very dissapointing; especially when it has come from a government which is by far one of the most favoured in recent times. The prime minister's alleged connection in this matter (Ranjan Bhattacharyya's alleged kick-back) is still hard to beleive. I always thought that Vajpayee was the greatest and the most honest leader/politician of our times.

Views:Like Tarun Tejpal of Tehelka.com rightly said, IF THIS CAN NOT SHAKE THE GOVT and I add, ALSO WE - THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY, NOTHING ELSE CAN. We need more and more of such daring invetsigative journalism to rip the masks off all such corrupt elements of our society. Hats off to both Aniruddh and Mathew for this wonderful achievement. They are the REAL patriots and Soldiers fighting with the enemy within the country. They have done their JOB and now we people have to do our's by standing by them. We should not get carried away with the regular b******* of endless enquiry commissions and empty promises & lip service by our Politicians. I sincerely hope that the media & the people of India wake up & take it up seriously and NOT forget the whole issue just like n number of earlier scams & scandals.
Well done TEHELKA !!

Views:1. It may be a scandal against the govt. Difficult to say at this stage. 2. Syatem across India with Govt. Agencies is venal. 3.Culprits should get llife imprisonment, as they should realise that its the Tax payers country and they should be answerable to the entire nation. 4. Defence Minister should own the responsibility but should not step down. He is an honest man. But has failed to deliver as he is the guardian and these were being done under his nose.

Views:This has only opened the window to the murky goings on in such deals. The system is not only venal, but the rot is so deep set, that it is well near impossible to get rid of this malaise as long as we do not have enlightened populace which is strong in its deterrant reactions. In a society, where people "congratulate" a perosn because he "nets" a son in law who is in say PWD or where paying a price (and then recovering many times that which is paid) for a "plum" posting, is accepted as a normal behaviour, such issues will create a temporary reaction, and the "actors" will be replaced by a new set, as there is always some one waiting in the wings, to fill the void. The defence minister must resign forthwith, so must the entire govt., if they have any modicum of shame (which they don't) Thanks for the opportunity to write. Mankikar KD.

That way India is no better than many third world countries where rulers amass enromous amounts of wealth at the cost of public exchequer. We need to clean up the system, make each decision public and follow-up on deals also public. Scrap official secrets act.

Views:tehlka.com must be congratulated for having brought the whole issue of corruption in defence deals. I am assuming that tehlka has done it without any politial vested interest. Now comes the issue of the moral and ethical value standards of our political "leaders", administrators and civilians who do not mind compromising anything - including national interest and pride - to earn a few more lakhs and crores. It reflects very badly on our society and culture which allows these scoundrels to get away with anyhing when the rest of our janata is begging for bare sustainance and our Jawans are sacrificing their lives to safeguard our security. Little do they know that the real threat to our security is from within the country, from our own Bhai-Bahens. Such is our country. How else can you explain the big wedding bash for Gopinath Munde's daughter in the days of earthquake?

All the tainted officials/politicians should be ripped off all the positions they hold and should be barred from ever holding any public position or contesting any election, or even getting any job in any firm in India, public or private. Plus, all their possessions should be confiscated without ever giving them a chance to go to the court for 'justice'. If only, our judicial system would allow these people to be execuited, along with all other rapists murderers! Wishful thinking!

Views:If The govt is really serious to probe , instead of making it another effort to do cover-up excercise it should iummediately conduct an IT raids on all the people who are involved in this scandal. Because the system, the image of nation and the crediblity of govt. is more important than people like Bangaru Laxman and George Fernandis > Govt should seriously try to Find the truth without wasting the time to make the evidence vanish ... Prima facie these people are guilty they should be arrested first and then the enquiry should be conducted as done in case of other criminals .. so that theey can not influence the evidences.. In fact the govt. has a great opportunity to prove its crediblity and arresting the culprit and showing that no one is above the law. If that happens it will be a turning point for the polity of the country and being an optimistic person I see this as an event which could be a boon in disguise for the system to show that the corrupt people, howsoever strong they be - shall not be spared.. All the best Atal Bihari Vajpayee as I still Feel that this govt. is more Honest than any other alternative available

He must resign, but after a month this whole issue will go to the cupboard & the people will agnain elect the corrupt{bloodthirsty} politician again with their votes. the congress or the BJP or the other parties all are the players in the game of "Kuan Banega Corruption-pati" .Here the prize-money is in no limit & you can use your lifeline with other party to win. They join the politics to participate "Looto desh ko chhappar phadke".You just need to have a criminal record & try your luck in this business. Ater all these scandal likely people are those whom we elect to fulfil their wish. If any abusive language is used to these people it will be abusive for the language. yours sincerely, Rahul Desai.

I was born in an army family and there is a palpable difference in the lifestyles of most Army Service and Ordnance Corps Officers. Now that these guys have been caught, they should be made to reveal the entire extent of the corruption in the army, instead of being made scapegoats for other scoundrels not caught on tape. Finally, these guys should be stripped of their uniforms and paraded in front of the Kargil widows and orphans. I felt really ashamed of myself for paying around Rs.10,00,000 as tax for the financial year 2000-2001 though I visit India once a year, when I learnt that seniour leaders like George Fernandes,Laxman and others were involved in this scandal. Why am I paying so much when I am seeing everything is eaten away by these kind of parasite politicians ? These guys talk about hindutva crap. I really felt like puking when I read following comment by Bangaru Laxman in Times Of India in a letter written to President of BJP .... ''It seems to me that this conspiracy has been hatched by the political opponents of my party who could not reconcile themselves to seeing that a Dalit has, for the first time, become the president of the BJP. '' My dear Sir ,, what does this mean ?? Is he still in 19th century following footsteps of Dr.Ambedkar ? I seriously dont mind him taking the bribe, but I do really mind if he tries to put a screen infront of evryone in the name of GOOD OLD Caste. Indians have had enough of dalit and all this from past 50 years. Now, Citizens have become clever enough to judge the things which have been around them. If you find this letter really annoying and against BJP, please ignore it. If you think this is from Congress or other opposition parties,, you better IGNORE it. I am not from any party or whatever they call it India. I am writing this letter to tell everyone that its really foolishness for any Indian citizen, if he thinks he is doing some welfare by paying his taxes promptly. He will soon realise that he has paid that to some minister's swiss bank account. You , Rediff community have the right to modify this letter accordi

They can run the country better than these politicians. The case is on of perjury and betrayel of the nation. in fact, what about having all these people being COURT MARTIALED? not very long back we had the match fixing scandal which involved some of our great cricketers. they have been BANNED, irrespective of they claiming innocence. Nobody accused of a crime owns up, remember HANSIE CRONJIE, AZHAR etc.. Same is the case with BANGARU LAXMAN, JAYA JAITLEY and co. These people should be BANNED from politics per se. and Azhar was accused of playing the Minority card claiming discrimintation on religious ground. Is Bangaru Laxman not playing similar caste card, claiming discrimination on caste ground. !!! Rise, oh citizens of India and overthrow these traitors
