Announcing this in a press release in Bhubaneswar late on Thursday night, party general secretary and spokesperson Jageneswar Babu said Mohanty had been expelled for his 'utterances' against Patnaik after his dismissal from the cabinet.
"The former working president of the party had not only challenged the authority of the party president, but also went to the length of asking Patnaik to fight against him from any assembly constituency in the state as if he (Mohanty) belonged to another political party," Babu said.
He said earlier Mohanty had also issued 'irresponsible' statements to a private TV channel.
Babu said the sacked minister continued to make 'malicious and damaging' statements threatening the very existence of the BJD-led government.
In an interview to a Cuttack-based daily, Mohanty had made 'serious and wild insinuations' against his former colleagues and also held out 'threats' to bring down the government, he said.
Babu said when the government and the party and its frontal wings were busy fighting the severe flood situation in the state, Mohanty was 'indulging in diversionary tactics' by giving calls against the party leadership.
