CID starts probe into Midnapore massacre

A Criminal Investigation Department team assisted by forensic experts Tuesday began a probe into the January 4 massacre in Midnapore district in West Bengal in which six Trinamul Congress workers were allegedly burnt alive.

This follows the Centre's advisory to the West Bengal government to institute an independent inquiry into the incident.

The 11-member team after inspecting the burnt houses where the Trinamul supporters were allegedly charred to death has now begun to look for the bodies.

Police sniffer dog Samrat led a police team from the torched house belonging to a Trinamul worker to a pond where the suspected killers washed their hands before fleeing to Baintal and Jaipur forest areas, the police said.
