NDA team's visit to Garbeta deferred

The proposed visit of National Democratic Alliance team to trouble-torn Garbeta in Midnapore district of West Bengal, where 18 people were claimed to have been killed, has been deferred.

Trinamul Congress Chief Whip in the Lok Sabha Sudip Bandopadhyay said in Calcutta that the team would visit the area after the return of party chief and Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee.

He said that Banerjee would visit Chotoangra village in Garbeta during the day and submit a report to the NDA after her return.

The Trinamul Congress had on Friday alleged that 18 of its supporters were burnt to death by Communist Party of India-Marxist cadres at Chotoangra village under Garbeta police station in Midnapore district on Thursday night.

West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya, commenting on the Trinamul Congress' allegation, had told reporters at Writers' Buildings on Friday that he had received information that one house was set on fire at Chotoangra village, but there was no casualty.
