Gandhian Sushila Nayyar dead: PTI

Dr Sushila Nayyar, an associate of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, died of old age on Wednesday at Sevagram, near Wardha in Maharashtra, Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram Trust officials in Ahmedabad said. She was 95.

Chancellor of the Gujarat Vidhyapeeth, Nayyar was Gandhi's family doctor and of other followers at Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad and later at Sevagram.

Nayyar, who was unmarried, shifted to Sevagram from Sabarmati Ashram along with Gandhi, to serve his followers, ashram trust secretary Amrutbhai Modi said.

She shifted to the ashram when 11, with her mother and brother Pyarelal from Punjab and dedicated her medical services to Gandhians at the ashram.

A meeting was organised at the ashram to condole her death, he added.
