Hurriyat leader Lone survives bid on life

Senior Hurriyat Conference leader and Peoples Conference chief Abdul Gani Lone survived a bid on his life when a grenade hurled at his car exploded on the road in Doda town on Tuesday night, official sources said on Wednesday.

Unidentified persons hurled a grenade targeting Lone's car near Gujjar hostel in the town, while the senior Hurriyat leader was leaving the dak bungalow after meeting senior citizens, they said.

The grenade missed the target and exploded on the road, a few metres away from the car, killing a stray animal, the sources said.

Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the attackers, they said.

Lone's security has been tightened after the attack, they added.
