At least seven Hindu villagers accompanying a marriage party were gunned down by unidentified militants at Trimbli village in the Panchari block of Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday afternoon, police sources said.
The sources said five villagers who received injuries were rushed to hospital.
Heavily armed militants ambushed the members of the marriage party near a dense forest at Trimbli village in Panchari, about 140 km from Jammu, around 1230 hours and opened fire, killing the seven on the spot, they said.
The firing triggered panic in the village with people running for cover.
This was the second such incident in past two days in Panchari block.
On Friday, militants took five members of the village defence committee and two Muslim villagers from Galyot village on the pretext of patrolling the area. However, all of them were gunned down on the outskirts of the village.
Villagers had recovered their bodies on Saturday morning.
