Top Hizb terrorist killed in Jammu and Kashmir

Binoo Joshi in Jammu

Police in Jammu and Kashmir have killed a top militant of the separatist Hizbul Mujahideen who was wanted for a string of killings of civilians and security personnel in and around Srinagar, officials said.

Roshan Khayal alias Bilal Sanghi was shot dead following an 'encounter' with police and Border Security Force personnel at his hideout in Ikhrajpora in downtown Srinagar.

State's police chief A K Suri told IANS, "This is a major blow to the militants in Kashmir and a big success for the state police."

Police also killed two foreign mercenaries in the jungles of Lolab in the northwestern frontier district of Kupwara. The duo had fired rockets at the chopper of India's Minister of State for External Affairs Omar Abdullah, police said.

The terrorists had fired at Abdullah's chopper just as it was landing in Lolab in June this year. Following the incident, the minister had to leave Lolab without addressing a public meeting.
