It's definitely a great loss to Indian IT industry. I afraid this would stop the rapid growth of Indian IT SECTOR.

A man who use to adorn the coverpage of most tech-mags was so accessible that he was ever ready for a quote and totally accessible to the smallest scribe. "He' speak" has now sadly turned to "He'll no longer speak!" We met him at the grand NASSCOM extrvaganza at Nehru Centre recently. He looked very exhausted but pulled a chair and spoke. Some said he was media-savvy and he agreed! "I stand for my industry, I stand for my nation, I stand for a hi-tech tommorrow," he always declared. The last time one of us met him was in the Oberoi lobby for a pre-budget interview. He was vociferous as ever. He demanded more sops,more tax concessions, more ease in trade. And when critics took him to task he used to shun them with statistics. "I want to have a PC in every house that has a TV." Recently he rightly had warned of a software recession. But he was sure to bridge the chasm - He was full to the brim with confidence. "We will get business and then you will write our sucess stories!" he assured the pen-pushers. His part was played and we still do not have the gut to erase his cell number from our diaries! May his industrious soul rest in piece. A true professional who passed away with his boots on, as a part of a trade delegation in Australia. And if this humorous IT buddy knew of his death beforehand, he would have quipped, "Don't worry! I will computerise heaven."

Dewang had build up a remarkable rapport with Central and State government officials, and was the mainstay in the formulation of IT 2000 draft policy. His access to the closed corridors of power brought rewards to the Indian IT industry, in the form of duty concessions and tax holidays for software export and services. His untimely departure will be felt in the Indian industry, particulary in the IT sector for a long time. His single-minded crusade against software piracy in India not only restored confidence in foreign partnerships, but also catapulted the Indian IT business. May his soul rest in peace.
