Soroor Ahmed in Patna

Three persons, including a candidate, have been killed in Bihar where polling for the first phase of panchayat elections took place on Wednesday.

While a candidate was killed in Siwan district, two others were gunned down in Patna and Nalanda districts.

Polling in several booths in Raghopur in Vaishali district, which is represented in the Bihar assembly by Chief Minister Rabri Devi, was suspended following reports of attacks on presiding officers.

The father of Dilip Singh, a candidate for the post of mukhiya in Raghopur, was shot at by supporters of a rival candidate. He was taken to the Patna Medical College Hospital in a serious condition.

Reports of violence were also received from several panchayats in Nalanda district, where the administration ordered the arrest of a candidate, Krishen Deo Singh.

In Manpur block of Nalanda district, supporters of a candidate exchanged fire with the police at a booth.
