E-Mail this report to a friend

The Uttar Pradesh police Sunday registered a case against three persons, including the national president of the Student Islamic Movement of India for links with terrorist outfits like the Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Tayiba.

Police said a first information report was lodged at Azamgarh on Saturday.

The FIR includes charges of spreading religious fundamentalism, making provocative speeches on sensitive issues such as Jammu and Kashmir, damaging public peace and having links with several militant groups.

They were also accused of trying to spread hatred in the minds of Muslims by criticising the government at a press meet organised at Azamgarh on September 8 last, police added.

Apart from SIMI president Shahid Badr, the FIR was lodged against press secretary Abdul Noor and Azamgarh district president Faizan Ahmed.

A case under section 153a, 295a, 505 and 120b of the Indian Penal Code was registered against them, the police said.
