Israeli experts helped combat J&K ultras: AFP

E-Mail this report to a friend

Israeli anti-terrorism experts have been helping India combat separatists in Kashmir, the Israeli daily Haaretz reported Friday.

The despatch of the experts, who Haaretz said wound up their mission Friday, came three months after a visit to Israel by Union Home Minister L K Advani.

"India is particularly interested in improving security along its border with Pakistan, especially in Kashmir, and in blocking guerrilla infiltration,'' Haaretz said.

The two sides are also discussing the possible purchase by India of Israel's Phalcon airborne warning and control system amid growing defence links between them.

India, which established diplomatic ties with the Jewish state in 1992, after a 40-year hiatus, is keen on intensified military co-operation with Israel, especially in the field of counter-insurgency.

The Arab world, however, accuses the pair of seeking to develop nuclear ties.

Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh visited Israel in June, the same month as Advani.
