Rockets fired at Rajouri homes

Suspected militants fired a series of rockets at residential areas in the southern Kashmiri border town of Rajouri, police said Wednesday.

"At least five rockets were fired at Rajouri late Tuesday night, when most people were sleeping," a police spokesman said.

Two houses were damaged in the attack, but there were no reports of any casualties.

"There were some explosions and people were running out of their houses in panic," local resident A K Badyal told AFP by telephone.

Rajouri, some 150 kilometres northwest of the Kashmiri winter capital Jammu, has been subjected to militant rocket attacks in the past, but this was the first time a residential area had been targetted rather than a military installation.
