Murasoli Maran ready to go home

Shobha Warrier in Madras

Doctors attending to Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Murasoli Maran at the Apollo Hospital, Madras, on Thursday decided to discharge him.

Maran is likely to leave the hospital at 1000 hours (IST). He will be able to resume his normal routine in about a month.

Maran was admitted to the hospital on the 28th of October after he complained of severe migraine, difficulty in breathing and chest pain. He was diagnosed as suffering from hyper-tropic obstructive cardio myopathy, a condition where the heart muscles get hardened.

Later, pulmonary oedema was also detected. He was on life support system for some time.

Dr Ulrich Sigwart, chief of invasive cardiology, Royal Brompton Hospital, London and Dr Horst Kuhn, an interventional cardiologist from Germany flew in to assist the panel of doctors at Apollo.

Maran spent a month in the Intensive Care Unit on life support system. In the last couple of days, 'he has been able to take short walks in the corridor and climb stairs', hospital authorities informed on Wednesday.
