Faizabad remains tense

E-Mail this report to a friend

Sharat Pradhan in Lucknow

Tension prevailed in Faizabad town where a prominent sadhu, who is leading the campaign for construction of the much-debated Ram temple at Ayodhya, was injured in a bomb blast yesterday.

"Bomb experts specially requisitioned from the Army have confirmed that the explosive device that blew off near the local government hospital was a sophisticated device not seen here in the past," said the Faizabad district magistrate Navneet Sehgal.

"We cannot rule out the involvement of Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence in this explosion that was targeted at Mahant Ram Chandra Paramhans," he said.

Attached to a bicycle, the bomb was apparently triggered with a remote device just as Mahant Paramhans was stepping out of the hospital for a stroll. The bicycle was blown to pieces and its splinters injured the Mahant and his security guards.

Admitting that the blast had caused some tension in the town, Sehgal said: "The situation is under control now."

No arrest, however, have been be made so far.
