Bihar Governor Vinod Chandra Pande has ended all speculation and invited Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Rabri Devi to form a government.

The Nitish Kumar government had failed to prove its majority on Friday.

Rabri Devi has been given 10 days to prove her majority in the House. She would be sworn in as the 30th chief minister of the state at 1700 hours IST.

She will be the third person to become chief minister for the third time. The others before her are Bhola Paswan Shashtri and Dr Jagannath Mishra.

Rabri Devi first became chief minister in July 1997 when her husband and RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav had to bow out of office following the animal husbandry scam. On February 12, 1999 her government was dismissed, but on Women's Day, March 8 the same year, it was reinstated.

"One or two ministers" are expected to take oath with the new chief minister, sources said.
