PM agrees to discuss RSS under Rule 184

E-Mail this report to a friend

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today told the Lok Sabha that the government has no objection to a discussion under Rule 184 of the Rules of Procedure on the Gujarat government allowing its employee to participate in RSS activities.

Soon after it assembled this morning, Vajpayee, in a brief intervention, said it was a matter of regret that hurdles had been placed in the smooth functioning of the house. This should not have happened, he said.

The government was willing to discuss all important issues in the house. If there were any differences about the modalities to be followed, these could be sorted out, Vajpayee said.

The prime minister said that a debate had already begun on the 'contentious' issue under Rule 193. There were precedents that even a debate under Rule 193 was converted into a discussion under Rule 184. ''We have no objection. You can allow a discussion under Rule 184,'' Vajpayee told Speaker G M C Balayogi.
