Delhi HC stays Qureshi's transfer to J&K

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

The Delhi High Court stayed the transfer of Hashim Qureshi to Srinagar late on Saturday night.

A special bench consisting of Justices Cyriac Joseph and S K Kapoor passed the order while hearing a Habeas Corpus petition filed by Qureshi's lawyer Vikas Pahwa at Justice Joseph's residence at 10 pm on Saturday.

In his petition, the advocate challenged his client's illegal detention and also challenged the order of Metropolitan Magistrate Kamini Lou allowing Qureshi to be sent to Srinagar.

The matter will now be heard by the bench at a special hearing scheduled for 3 pm on Sunday.
