Tension in Aurangabad village over desecration of Ambedkar statue

Tension prevailed in Asegaon village of Gangapur taluka of Aurangabad district following the desecration of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's statue yesterday.

According to police sources, a woman, Sarita Thorat who lives in the Buddha locality of the village noticed the desecration early in the morning yesterday. Tension gripped the locality when the news spread and soon a mob gathered at the spot, demanding immediate action against the culprits. The Waluj-MIDC police immediately rushed to the spot and appealed people to maintain peace. A sniffer dog was also pressed into service, which traced the culprit till the Daulatabad railway station.

However, no untoward incident was reported and the situation is now peaceful, the sources added.
