Local support to militants in Jammu wanes: armyLocal support to militancy is waning in several districts of Jammu and Kashmir due to steps taken by the army and state administration, Lieutenant General D S Chauhan, corps commander, claimed Friday. Rajouri, Poonch, Udampur and Doda districts, which were once havens for terrorists, have ceased to welcome them. Thus, continued Gen Chauhan, who chaired a meeting of the unified command at Nagrota Thursday evening, pressure mounted on militants was yielding encouraging results. He said the minority community in remote areas is being given reasonable security cover through newly established police pickets. The administration has also undertaken developmental projects in such areas to improve living conditions. Further, the army has launched various civic measures. The unified command deliberated on the co-ordination of all wings of security forces and administration, inseminattion of intelligence and joint anti-militant operations. UNI |
