Slap President's rule on Maharashtra: Mamata

E-Mail this report to a friend

Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has called for the imposition of President's rule in Maharashtra in view of Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray's threat to disrupt India-Pakistan cricket matches in the country.

''What the Shiv Sena is doing is a criminal thing and they are dangerously mixing sports with politics,'' Banerjee told the media.

She also urged the Bharatiya Janata Party to withdraw its support to the Shiv Sena government in Maharashtra.

She, however, said she had full faith in Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. ''I think he will be able to overcome the problems arising out of the Shiv Sena threat,'' she added.
