An organisation of US-based Sikhs has issued an advertisement in a local daily, urging restoration of the 10-year-multi-point American visa to Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh by the United States' embassy in New Delhi.

The organisation, Akalh Takht Sahib Support Committee, sought the help of Pope John Paul in restoring the visa.

The adverstisement said a five-member Sikh delegation, representing the European chapter of the organisation, would present the appeal to the Pope in Rome on Tuesday.

It said the decision to revoke Bhai Ranjit Singh's visa, ''has caused great pain and anguish not only to the 18 million Sikhs living in India but has touched the soul of the properous three million strong Sikh diaspora.''

''The Sikhs living in the United States are specially disappointed as they had organised numerous religious functions synchronising with Bhai Ranjit Singh's visit,'' it added.
