Ashok Jain, chief of TOI group, dies in USAshok Kumar Jain, chairman of the Bennett Coleman Co Ltd who recently underwent a heart transplant, died at Cleveland in the United States early this morning. He was 65. One of the country's prominent business personalities and a leader of the Jain community, he is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. Jain will be cremated at Cleveland (USA) in the evening. Jain, chief of The Times of India group of publications, had a long history of heart ailments and had undergone three bypass surgeries. He received a donor heart at Cleveland clinic on January 10. After the transplant operation, he showed signs of recovery, but his health suffered a setback last week leading to his re-admission to the clinic's intensive care unit. At various times, he served as the president of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the Indian National Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce, All India Organisation of Employers, Cement Manufacturers Association, Indian Chamber of Commerce, Indian Paper Mills Association, Bihar Chamber of Commerce and Bihar Industries Association. Jain was chairman of the Times Research Foundation and the Times Fellowships Council and managing trustee of the Bharatiya Jnanpith, a leading organisation devoted to the promotion and recognition of the best creative writing in Indian languages.
