Gujarat takes precautionary measures in Dangs

E-Mail this report to a friend

State Home Minister Haren Pandya rushed to south Gujarat to review the law and order situation in the area and held meetings with Hindu and Christian leaders at Waghai and Ahwa yesterday.

Addressing the media at Navsari, Pandya said he had taken into confidence leaders of both communities and had been assured by them of full cooperation to maintain peace and harmony during Christmas eve.

He also visited Halmodi and met both community leaders and appealed them to help the authorities in maintaining peace.

He had to visit Ahwa, the district headquarter town of Dangs, and Halmodi in Vyara taluk of Surat district following Hindu Jagaran Manch's proposed anti-conversion rally at Ahwa and shilanyas of a Ram temple at Halmodi, on December 25 and 22 respectively.

However, leaders of the Hindu Jagaran Manch, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and local unit of the BJP have reiterated their decision to hold the rally and shilanyas on Christmas day.

However, a recent government circular prohibited any rally on a festival day of another religion in the state.
