Government refuses to 'take care'

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition government will take all the appropriate decisions at the appropriate time as there is no such thing as a caretaker government in the Constitution, Information and Broadcasting Minister Pramod Mahajan said today.

"A government is a government and it is empowered to take any decision," Mahajan said in reply to a volley of questions from reporters about the power and status of the government.

He said the government knows it was defeated on the floor of the Lok Sabha and is also aware of its limitations. But he indicated that it could even take decisions relating to the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and the World Trade Organisation if the situation so warranted.
