ULFA kills 5 jawans, blast pipeline

E-Mail this report to a friend

United Liberation Front of Asom militants blew up an oil pipeline and gunned down five security personnel in upper Assam last night to mark the 'protest day', official sources said today.

The sources said in two separate incidents the militants of the outlawed outfit blew up an Oil India Limited pipeline between Digboy and Tinsukia by detonating a time device near a tea estate and ambushed a patrol party of the Central Industrial Security Force killing five personnel including a sub-inspector near another tea estate at Sipon in Sibsagar district.

The banned organisation observes November 27 every year as protest day. On this day in 1990, the then Asom Gana Parishad government was ousted by a central decree and President's rule was imposed in the state. The Centre then launched a huge army operation against ULFA thereafter.
