Advani to oversee J&K deptThe Bharatiya Janata Party-led government has entrusted the responsibility of the department of Jammu and Kashmir affairs, hitherto held by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, to Union Home Minister Lal Kishinchand Advani. A Presidential communique said the prime minister will relinquish the charge of this department with immediate effect. The J and K department was created during the P V Narasimha Rao regime and was handled by the Prime Minister's Office. The Union home secretary is the ex-officio secretary in this department. UNI
