The three scientists have done something to bring India's scietific achievements to the forefront. Now we need more visionaries to bring the explosion of corruption to a standstill. India's inability to deal with corruption has brought so much pain to us Indians who live in other countries.

Why do we need a temple when the need is for a toilet? Why do we need a poster of a politician when those funds can be used for a school? Why do we need statues of politicians when all they have done is divide Indians into various groups? Why do we have to name a street or airport for a dead prime minister who has accumulated wealth through corruption? Why do we not pass stricter laws against corruption with mandatory death sentences?

Once the BJP is able to kill corruption they will win as many seats that they want. To solve our terrorist problems we should take a lesson from the Israelis who are fighting this problem and can write a book on the topic. Every terrorist should lose his house and his family should be put to extreme pain and inconvenience so that it will not be worth their while to indulge in such activities. Limit the number of political parties so that the division within ourselves will be less. Instead of a parliamentary type of democracy we should have a presidential type of democracy with limited parties to choose from. Help the defence forces to be happy and comfortable so that the best pool of talents can be recruited. Remove caste-based quotas in all aspects of society, let everyone be Indian and raise his standards to do that.

The British policy of divide and rule is quoted all over India; at least they ruled. We now divide and are unruly. Population and corrruption will be the next topic to control. Let us pray that our Supreme Court can put its foot down and do something about it.

Subject: NSC

From the report, it appears the NSC has a very narrow role!

National security should be a broad-based concept taking into consideration economic, financial and food security, specially if and when these sectors are threatened and affected in situations such as the current sanctions. I would say the chairman of the planning commission, RBI governor, etc should be in some way part of such a council or advisory committee directly advising NSC. There is no national security without the financial and economic security of the country in today's interdependent world.

Subject: George Fernandes

I am an Indian journalist based in Hong Kong and don't get to read many Indian news publications, so it was refreshing to read the report on George Fernandes's "outburst" against China. But I was wondering if you should make an effort to put out stories or commentaries that also address Fernandes's point of view -- after all, he must have SOME reason for saying what he did.

For instance, it is a fact that previous governments have kept the Indian public in dark about many of the problems, including skirmishes, on the Sino-Indian border. Why? Is it because those governments have been afraid of angering China? If so, does that not amount to appeasement of China, despite the well-known fact that it has consistently used Islamabad against India?

Many Indian army generals and other senior officers say China is clearly a threat to Indian security and that it wishes to encircle India militarily -- from Pakistan in the west, Burma in the east and through an expanded Chinese navy in the Indian Ocean. If this is true, perhaps Indians should be thanking Fernandes for telling them the truth -- or at least calling a spade a spade -- instead of toeing the pro-China line of the bankrupt Indian Foreign Service. I suppose Sumit Ganguly would agree this assessment to some extent at least. It might be an interesting idea to arrange another chat with him. If you do, please let me know.

Subject: KILLINGS IN DODA

The gunning down of 25 members of two marriage parties on the Doda-Dessa road on June 19, 1998 by terrorists is an act which only the beasts of prey are capable of. The wild boars have repeated the barbarism shown earlier in Wandahama and Bhimber (POK).

I have been repeatedly warning that the massacre of innocent people on the pattern of Algeria was being planned in order to spread fear among the people and thus turn the entire sub-continent into a vast graveyard, bodies done to death by the wild boars.

The J&K Democratic Liberation Party strongly condemns these barbaric killings. Our organisation demands that a high level enquiry be held into the carnages at Sangrampora, Wandhama, Prankot, Riasi, Doda, Surankot and Champanari, and the real culprits be identified and dealt with in accordance with the law of the land. These elements are bent upon shedding the innocent and pious blood of human beings only to achieve their self interests.

We also hold the ruling circles responsible because the government is allowing these carnages to take place one after another. In this hour of crisis, I appeal to the people of Kashmir and those intellectuals in India and Pakistan who care for Kashmiris that they should raise their voice against such brutal and barbaric killings in order to save the present and future generations from the atrocities of these babarians.

Subject: Rally in support of Sanjoy Ghose captured by ULFA

Noted activist Sanjoy Ghose was captured by ULFA one year back on July 4. ULFA now threatens his wife if she enters Assam. I think all should join the rally in Delhi on July 4 to defeat the forces of separatism in the country.

The article is great reporting considering the fact that no one in the so-called "secular" (rather anti-Hindu) media reports the plight of the Kashmiri Pandits in their own homeland.

Without your cartoons many Indians like me would have also died. It gives us strength, to get up and continue our struggle. Believe me I am addicted to your cartoons. I have collected few of your best, sorry better cartoons (as per your interview your best is yet to come). Your interview is also great, honest, frank and to the point as always are your cartoons.

Please keep it up and I wish you a very long life.
