I fully agree with Ashwin's views. China's treacherous and ruthless nature in expanding its territory is to be condemned by the world community, especially a body like the UN. Ironically China is a member of the very same UN Security Council! How materialism overtakes the principle of morality and compassion for other human beings can be seen in Bill Clinton's continued support to support China, a country with a very unreasonable and open dictatorship.

How China betrayed India in the 60s cannot be forgotten! China believes that religion is poison and the very same religious faith and positive thoughts of all good people of the world and of Tibetans will soon bring peace to Tibet and the Chinese would leave Tibet for good! I am sure! Free Tibet!

Cries for "FREE TIBET" should be amplified more and more in these troubled times when world regimes are cornering a peaceful country like India, while backing the communist dictatorship in China.

China has no moral or otherwise authority to tell the world to mend their business. It is a high time that India did more than provide asylum to Tibetans and lip service to ordinary Chinese. If the USA can talk of democracy in other countries, why cannot India talk both politically and otherwise on China and Tibet?

Bill Clinton's statement that China should be party to all Indo-Pak talks should now compel India to talk more openly about Chinese tyranny in Tibet.

I strongly suggest to remove the imposed condition on Tibetans that they cannot run political activities from Indian soil. We are a democratic country and Tibetans should have the right to raise their voice from here. In this 50th anniversary of democracy in India, we owe this to the Tibetans.

Ashwin Mahesh's article is very moving. Indians should become more aware of what happened to Tibet and India should take up Tibet's cause. We should lead the way in mobilising world opinion against Chinese tyranny. Tibet and India's futures are actually tied together. So it is in our national interest to see a free Tibet.

'Free Tibet' by Ashwin Mahesh is a very touching article which would hopefully stir many Indians, and encourage them to non violently support the movement for a FREE TIBET.

Mr Mahesh's article reflects the rather naive attitude that is common to most "supporters" of the Tibetan cause. Such "support" does the Tibetan cause more harm than good. It is allowing the Tibetans to pass quietly into extinction while they take comfort in the belief that the world is slowly waking up to their plight. How much time must pass before the Tibetans realise that passive talk achieves (and will achieve) nothing.

What is needed is action that will lead to a change in the attitude of the Chinese government, for a message that they cannot ignore. It is futile to write on this issue unless it is to move the dialogue towards developing such an action plan.

Your column on Morals Havaldar was not great, it was just terrific. It takes a lot of guts to stand up to what you think is the way things are, though this might be totally different from the way the world runs its affairs. It is a mighty fact that our society is riddled with hypocrites. Double standards are the thing of the day. Well it was nice of you to put things in the proper perspective, though I am sure there will be many who will not agree with you -- though in the heart of hearts they know you're...

Keep up the good work. It is heartening to see different points of view by different persons on the same topic without, I hope any animosity for which the crew at Rediff should take credit..
